Planning a Luxury Romantic Getaway for Valentine’s Day

Planning a Luxury Romantic Getaway for Valentine’s Day

Article by Harvey McEwan

While choosing a luxurious destination for a Valentine’s getaway can seem tricky for some, it need not be difficult if you bear in mind a few basic rules.

Valentine’s Day is usually a love-or-hate affair. For some couples it is the highlight of the year, with lavish gifts and fancy meals, while some mark the occasion with a simple card and embrace and others still ignore it completely. But even if you remain unconvinced by the trappings of ‘the most romantic day of the year’, Valentine’s Day can be a great excuse for a break from your everyday life and the chance to indulge in some much-deserved alone time with your beloved.

One excellent way to celebrate Valentine’s Day is to take a luxury weekend break in a romantic location in the UK. It’s the kind of trip that will suit all types of couples since it allows you to do whatever you want – you don’t even have to leave your hotel room or learn another language. However, while choosing a destination for a Valentine’s getaway can seem tricky for some, it need not be difficult if you bear in mind a few basic rules.

Thinking about your personal needs on a romantic holiday for two

When selecting a Valentine’s Day break destination, it’s first important to establish how you’re going to get there. For instance, if you’re travelling by rail, you may have to rule out rural areas that are hard to access without a car. But do your research carefully and don’t eliminate options too soon. Indeed, it’s amazing how many places you can get to on the UK’s extensive public transport system. Even the most remote islands in the west of Scotland can be accessed through a combination of rail, ferry and bus journeys.

Once you’ve narrowed down a list of feasible locations, think about what you and your partner will want to do on your romantic getaway. If you’re both history buffs, a visit to a city or area that’s steeped in the past may be the ideal solution. A trip to York, for example, will reveal a Yorkshire town that’s deeply proud of its medieval and Viking roots, while its charming streets and quiet atmosphere create a suitably romantic vibe for couples. Alternatively, food and drink connoisseurs should consider spending their romantic weekend in a location that’s well-known for its culinary greatness. London is the obvious choice here but couples that live in the capital should think about venturing north to exciting cities like Manchester, Newcastle, Glasgow or Edinburgh.

Choosing destination spas and luxury hotel breaks

Of course, if what you’re looking for in a Valentine’s Day escape is total relaxation, you won’t do better than a spa break. Spa hotels pride themselves on offering their guests a truly tranquil atmosphere in which they can retreat from the modern world. Some are located in the middle of busy cities, while others occupy palatial countryside properties. Most, however, will offer specialist ‘Him and Her’ packages in February, giving couples the chance to relax side by side on their romantic break.

If you’re looking for more information on destination spas and reviews of luxury hotels UK, remember that the internet is your best resource. Many luxury hotels with regular Valentine’s Day offers will only advertise their promotions online and while it’s always best to be prepared in advance, last-minute deals are often available for those who want to take a spontaneous romantic break.
